McGregor and Khabib Clash Over Cryptocurrency Ventures Amid NFT Controversy
Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov have reignited their rivalry, this time over cryptocurrency ventures. The UFC stars clashed on social media following Nurmagomedov's launch of an NFT collection on Telegram featuring digital papakha hats, traditional Dagestani headwear he wore during UFC events. The collection reportedly generated $4.4 million in sales before promotional posts were deleted.
McGregor accused Nurmagomedov of scamming fans by leveraging his late father's name and Dagestani culture, claiming supporters were robbed after promotional content disappeared. Nurmagomedov defended the NFTs as legitimate digital gifts celebrating his heritage and labeled McGregor a liar.
The controversy took a Meta turn when blockchain investigator ZachXBT highlighted McGregor's hypocrisy, referencing his failed REAL memecoin launch in April. The project raised just 39% of its target through a sealed-bid auction system before refunding all participants. This clash occurs as the memecoin market capitalization plunges to $39.4 billion, shedding $5 billion in a single day to reach 2025's lowest level.
